Paris
Part 2
Keys to shoe shopping at Galeries Lafayette:
Make sure to have your sales associate direct you to the VAT Refund Department. Those eligible (almost all non- European Union visitors qualify) are able to receive a refund of the VAT or value added tax from a shop where you have spent at least 175 euros. Depending on how much you spend, the VAT Refund can really add up.
You can not, and I repeat, you can not do a “drive by” when visiting the shoe department at Galeries Lafayette, you need to take your time (a lot of time). Believe me, you will discover styles from your favorite designers not available in your country as well as discover new designers and brands with whom you will fall in love. Even if you don’t plan on buying anything, you really must take your time to get the full experience and fashion exposure.
Getting the deals. The best time to try and scoop up a designer shoe deal is during the bi-annual national sales - called Soldes. Typically, January/ February and July/August. This is when the French snag their best deals and prices on high-end items they’ve coveted all season.
Although the shoe department at Galeries Lafayette is sheer shoe heaven, you will also find beautiful shoes in many of the mini designer boutiques located throughout the store.
